Madison 18U defenseman Mickelson signs NAHL tender
January 21, 2016

The Madison Capitols, proud members of the NAPHL, are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Chase Mickelson has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs compete in the NAHL Midwest Division.
Mickelson, 18, is in his second season playing in the NAPHL for the Capitols 18U team. The native of Rice Lake, Wisconsin has had his best career season, recording 21 points during 25 regular season games during the 2015-16 season. Mickelson’s 21 points were 3rd among all NAPHL 18U defensemen and his 16 assists tied for the NAPHL 18U lead among all defensemen.
At the most recent NAPHL event in Troy, MI, Mickelson (6’2/210) played in the 2015-16 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game for Team Easton. He also played in the 2015 NAPHL Top Prospects Tournament in Ann Arbor, MI, for the Great Lakes team.
Mickelson’s best stretch of hockey this season came back in September and October when he put together a seven-game point streak, which helped the Capitols ultimately finish in 2nd place in the 18U Division during the 2015-16 regular season.
In 49 career NAPHL regular season games, Mickelson has 37 career points. He is the first player from this year’s Madison 18U team to have signed an NAHL tender.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June of 2016.
