T1ER West NAHL Experience Weekend: Day 3

18U:
The Lincoln Stars remain undefeated with an 8-0 record after winning their final game of the weekend over Team Alaska by a final score of 6-3. The Stars kicked things off with a bang scoring three consecutive goals in the first period but it would be Alaska’s Daniel Matveev who would attempt a comeback for his squad scoring a hattrick, bringing his goal total to seven on the weekend. Despite the Matveev’s relentless efforts, Lincoln’s Ryer Harings would score two goals of his own to aid his team to victory.
The New Jersey Titans ended the event on a high note, picking up their first win of the event after defeating the Wasatch Renegades by a final score of 2-1. New Jersey’s Jason Williams opened up the scoring with just under three minutes to play in the first period, a critical goal to spark the Titans energy early on, a foreshadow for the remainder of the game. After a scoreless second period, Wyatt Hanna tied things up for Wasatch 13:10 into the third. After a short intermission, overtime began and it was Jason Williams who would score yet again to send his team home with the victory, just under three minutes into extra innings.
Similar to New Jersey, Florida Alliance South picked up their first win on the weekend before heading back to the Sunshine State as they defeated the Seattle Kraken by a score of 5-1. Despite the score being in favor of Florida, the shots on goal were in favor of Seattle as the Kraken outshot the Alliance 37 to 29. Alliance netminder had himself quite the game as the defensive star making 36 out of 37 saves. Meanwhile on offense, Rueben Clark was an absolute playmaker for his team, scoring an impressive natural hat trick.
16U:
Team Alaska picked up their second win in Albuquerque, shutting out the Lincoln Stars by a final score of 2-0, the team’s first shutout of the season. Despite each team having three power play opportunities, neither team was able to score on the man advantage. Scoring opened up in the first period, coming off the stick of Noah Matheson, followed by Alaska’s second goal coming from Brayden MacMillian during period two. Goaltender Eli Maesner had an incredible performance in net but during his post-game interview gave all the credit to the team in front of him for playing well, helping his success.
The Seattle Kraken and Orange County Bulldogs gave fans quite the show as the Kraken defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 5-4 in a shootout. Heading into the final frame, things were all tied up as each team was able to score three goals a piece through the first two periods. Henry Hlinka would put Seattle up 4-3, his second goal in regulation just over 6 minutes into the third. Similar to Hlinka, Orange County’s Atticus Knutson would also score his second goal of the game to tie things up with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. With neither team finding the back of the net in overtime, the boys headed to a shootout and it would be Max Kadish and none other than Henry Hlinka to score in the shootout to seal the deal for Seattle.
Rounding things out in the 16U division, the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights finished off the event with a 4-3 victory over the Wasatch Renegades. After a scoreless first period, Vegas was dominant in period two, leading 3-1 with three different players finding the back of the net. Looking at the final frame, the Renegades attempted a comeback scoring the first goal of the period but Joc Bukovec went on to score the eventual game winner.
