18U:

Philadelphia Hockey Club and Indiana Elite both opened the Showcase on a high note, each picking up wins in their lone games of the day.

At the 18U level, PHC put up the most goals of any team on Day 1 with a 6-1 victory over the Lincoln Stars. After a 1-1 opening period, Philly broke things open with three goals in the second before tacking on two more in the third. Special teams played a big role, as half of their tallies came on the power play. Leading the charge was veteran defenseman Adam Charrafi, who had a standout four-point performance with two goals and two assists.

Indiana Elite followed a similar script in their matchup with Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy. After finishing the first period tied 1-1, Gavin Fleischer struck for the eventual game-winner in the second. Indy then pulled away late, netting three more in the third to seal a 5-1 win. Special teams again proved key, with their third goal coming on the power play and their fifth scored shorthanded.

16U:

Biggby Coffee opened their season with an offensive outburst, rolling to an 8-1 win. The scoring started early as four different skaters found the back of the net in the first period. Biggby kept the momentum rolling in the second, adding three more while allowing just one against to take a 6-1 lead into the final frame. They closed things out with two more in the third to cap off a dominant performance. Jake Martin and Liam Wojt each scored twice, with Wojt also adding an assist to finish as the lone three-point player of the game.

Fresh off last year’s 16U Dixon Cup title, CarShield carried their momentum into the new season with a 4-2 win over the Moose. Kaesen Graff got things started in the opening frame with the lone first-period tally before CarShield took control in the second, scoring three more goals. Ayden Cooper buried what stood as the game-winner on the power play to cap the middle-period. The Moose battled back in the third with a pair of goals to cut into the lead, but CarShield stood tall defensively to secure their first victory of the season.

15U:

The Pittsburgh Stars battled through a nail-biter against Team Alaska, coming out on top with a 2-1 victory. Alaska struck first in the opening frame, but Pittsburgh answered quickly as Decker Kai buried to tie the game. The deadlock held through the second period before Asan Abdygulov delivered the game-winner in the third, sealing the win for the Stars. Pittsburgh’s penalty kill was a difference-maker as well, shutting down all three of Alaska’s power-play opportunities.

The Tri-State Spartans edged out the Queen City Royals in a shootout, skating away with a 4-3 victory. The Royals struck twice in the opening period while Tri-State answered on the power play to make it 2-1 after one. The middle frame stayed quiet, but the Spartans came alive in the third with back-to-back goals to grab the lead. Queen City responded late to force overtime, but after a scoreless extra session, Chase Fecko and Aiden Skoglund sealed the win for Tri-State in the shootout.
