18U:
Biggby made a statement on their final day of play in Janesville, earning not one but two wins, taking down both CarShield and Omaha in impressive fashion. After falling to Lincoln the day before, Biggby bounced back with a dominant Sunday performance.
Game one against CarShield was a tight battle from start to finish, ending in a 3-2 victory for Biggby. The first two periods were evenly matched, with each team finding the back of the net twice. CarShield opened the scoring with a goal from Brayden Davis, but Biggby quickly answered before Drew Watz gave them a 2-1 lead. CarShield tied things up before the second intermission, setting up a dramatic finish. In the third, 18U leading scorer Dimitri Tioumentsev delivered the game-winner to secure the win in game one.
Game two against Omaha was another strong showing from the Michigan squad, who skated away with a 4-2 victory. Darren Mayhew got things rolling with a power-play goal to give Biggby a 1-0 lead after one. Omaha responded in the second with back-to-back goals, including a power-play tally from Buchnanon Franta, to take a 2-1 advantage. But the third period was all Biggby, as they rallied with three unanswered goals, capped off by Trevor Nightingale’s first of the T1ER season, which stood as the game-winner.
Biggby closed out their weekend in style, proving they’re the team to beat at the 18U level heading into Blaine.
16U:
The Omaha Mastery sit atop the 16U standings and extended their win streak to five with a 5–2 victory over Seattle to close out the event. Omaha came out hot, scoring twice in the opening period, including a power-play goal from Will Trembley with under a minute to go. Seattle answered in the second, netting a pair of goals to even things at two heading into the final frame. The third period belonged to Omaha, as they took control and added three more, two of them from Trembley to complete the hat trick. With three goals and an assist on the day, Trembley now sits third overall in 16U scoring, and the Mastery appear unstoppable heading into the next T1ER event in Blaine.
We had a Top 50 battle between Biggby and the Madison Capitols, and it did not disappoint. The first period was full of action, with both teams trading blows early. Biggby struck first with two quick goals before Madison responded with a pair of their own to even things up heading into the second. The middle frame was quieter, but Madison pulled ahead 3-2 thanks to Carter Oliphant, the fourth overall leading scorer at the 16U level, who tallied his second of the game. Biggby’s Cooper Rathbun tied things up early in the third, but Madison turned up the pressure late, scoring twice more to skate away with a 5-3 victory.
