After getting shut out this morning against the Chicago Fury, the Philadelphia Little Flyers put together a statement win against the Victory Honda to even up their record on the day. In a 3-2 bout, the Little Flyers collected the lead and snared it for the entire third period to put their adversaries away.
The first period was largely uninteresting as neither team could find the back of the net. Seven minutes after the first intermission, Nicholas Labuono placed a shot right above the goaltender’s pad and gave the Little Flyers a 1-0 lead. This lead would not last long as Honda put on the pressure and eventually tied the game courtesy of Jack Josifovski on a great feed into the slot from Austin Ross. Just a couple of minutes later, Honda lit the lamp yet again on another excellent passing play. This time, it was James Gilliam sending the puck on the backhand onto the tape of Ross for the tap-in goal. With just five minutes remaining in the period, Philadelphia’s Danny Guller found the back of a wide-open cage off of a great cross-crease feed from Connor Davis. Just 36 seconds later, Danny Garvin cleaned up a rebound and continued the scoring for Philadelphia. This would be the final goal of the contest as the third period came and went, and the Little Flyers left in the win column.
In an extremely even-matched contest, both teams found plenty of offense. In this case,
Philadelphia was able to capitalize more often, which ended up being the difference maker. Philadelphia’s Danny Garvin put together a great evening by scoring the game-winning goal and assisting on both of the Little Flyers’ other goals. Combining that with Brock Reid stopping 28 of 30 shots faced, the Little Flyers played a gritty game that left them with the lead upon the final buzzer.
After a gut-wrenching loss to the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers earlier in the day, the Madison Capitols were able to bounce back and put away the Dallas Stars Elite in a 3-1 contest. After going down early, the Capitols were able to string together three unanswered goals and leave with the win.
The first period had very little offense as the two teams combined for six shots and were unable to find the back of the net. The second period looked to be following suit with no score after ten minutes. Finally, Nathan Alexander opened the scoring on a great feed from Carson Friske, and the Dallas Stars Elite took their only lead of the game. With just under four minutes remaining in the frame, the Capitols even the score when Baxter Ledford got alone on a breakaway and snuck the puck through the legs of goaltender Mark Besedin. What seemed to be another slow third period turned into the Capitols taking the lead and extending it. First, it was Jack Bianchi going coast to coast and burying the biscuit on a wrap-around shot. With just under three minutes remaining, Landin Phillips chopped at the puck deep in the slot and put this game on ice.
An example of grit, determination, and willpower from this Capitols team. In their first game of the day, they opened the scoring but gave up four unanswered goals to lose the game. In this one, it was their opponents who opened the scoring and themselves doing the talking for the remainder of the bout. Two unassisted goals for the Capitols prove the extreme individual desire to claw back and put up the W, and that is just what they did.
After getting shutout in a 6-0 loss against the Carolina Jr. Canes, the Seattle Kraken put up six goals of their own against the Omaha Mastery in route to a 6-3 victory. After trailing on multiple occasions, the Kraken turned up the heat and laid on the offense to leave Fogerty Arena victorious.
Omaha came out swinging and logged the first goal courtesy of a Buchanon Franta snipe from the slot. The Kraken were able to storm back as Ryan Li finished a feed from Henry Hlinka. The even score would only last about a minute and a half as Devin Heald sent one into a wide-open cage thanks to a great feed from Franta. This game would go into the first intermission in favor of Omaha, and the Kraken had their work cut out for them. A largely uninteresting second period turned into a crucial turning point for the Kraken. With five minutes remaining in the frame, Hlinka evened up the score on the rush. Not long after, Fedor Stepanyuk sent a wrist shot from the point that snuck under the goaltenders’ glove to give the Kraken the lead heading into the second intermission. With just under nine minutes remaining, Kruz Barnes ripped the puck on a turnaround shot that found the back of the net. Omaha would temporarily quell Seattle’s momentum when Reece Jackson snuck in behind the Kraken defense and lit the lamp. With just a minute remaining, Wyatt Siler and Max Kadish put away two empty netters, and this game was history.
In any sport, losing a game by a wide margin is not just a tick in the losing column. Without the right response, it could start a nasty skid for the receiving team. The Seattle Kraken are likely looking back on this game, fond of their resilience and ability to respond to adversity. Henry Hlinka made a dent in the stat sheet with one goal and two assists, leading the Kraken to a statement win over the Omaha Mastery.
After dropping a close game to Fox Motors earlier in the day, the Indiana Elite were able to pin a 5-3 loss on the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers. Despite the Jr. Flyers putting together some momentum and almost coming back, the Elite were able to stand strong and put this game away late.
After 14 minutes of scoreless hockey, Quinn Clauson picked the top corner and opened up the scoring to give Indiana a 1-0 lead. Not even a minute later, Trevor Young extended the Elite lead on an excellent shot from the high slot. With a 2-0 lead coming out of the first intermission, Braydon Hunter lit the lamp to extend the Elite lead yet again. In the final minutes of the second period, Paxton Hoishik opened the scoring for Philadelphia and cut the Indiana lead that had stood for almost 25 minutes to that point. Coming out of the second intermission, Philadelphia was looking to score the next goal, and they did just that. Robert Radtke gave the Jr. Flyers some life when a shot from the point trickled underneath the goalie and into the net. With a brand-new game with some Philadelphia momentum, Nathan Apple wasted no time and showcased some silky mitts on one with the goalie and gave the Elite a two-goal advantage. With six minutes remaining, Jr. Flyers’ Cole Gargon cleaned up his own rebound to cut the lead again, but it was Trevor Young who scored the dagger with four minutes remaining, and Indiana walked away with the win.
In a back-and-forth game and a gritty Jr. Flyers team breathing down their neck, Indiana stayed poised and never let Philadelphia tie the game. The team-oriented play from Indiana was clear as eight different players logged a point, and there were four unique goal scorers for the Elite.
16U:
The Wasatch Renegades found themselves a much-needed win over the also-struggling New Jersey Jr. Titans. The Renegades and Jr. Titans had a low-scoring affair with just three total goals split between the two clubs. The Renegades were able to get two of them with a third-period game-winning goal. Despite the Jr. Titans taking the lead late in the second period, the Renegades answered less than two minutes later with a goal from Samson Wahlberg, Judge Glommen on the assist. In the final period, the Renegades were able to score again, which ended up being the game winner, Jack Bishop on the unassisted goal for the win. In the net for the Renegades, Thomas Deleone II was excellent, only allowing one goal in 33 shots taken on goal. Finishing with an insane near 97% save percentage.
The Philadelphia Little Flyers flew to a big win over the Indiana Elite today. The Little Flyers lit up the scoreboard six times with five different goal scorers, Porter Fegley being the only player to get multiple goals. Ethan Hillanbrand, Torin McComas, Lewis Ziegler, and Rocco Trivarelli were the other goal scorers, each getting one goal apiece. The most impressive thing about their scoring was the efficiency they scored. The Little Flyers only attempted 15 goals and scored six times, giving them a 40% goal percentage. The defense from the Little Flyers was suffocated as they only allowed the Indiana Elite to take 13 shots. Zachary Wyant was able to save 11 of those shots, having an 84% save percentage. The Little Flyers dominate in a 6-2 win.
15U:
The Tri-State Spartans found themselves in a thriller of a game today against CarShield. The Spartans opened with a multiple-score lead, but CarShield crawled back into it and sent the game to overtime, where the Tri-State Spartans would seal the deal in a shootout. The Spartans scored four goals with four different goal scorers in regulation. Lucas Vivona and Nadav Segal each scored, and Ethan Okeley and Marek Jas each scored in regulation and each scored in the shootout to win the game for the Spartans. In the net for the Spartans, Camden Wooderson allowed four goals on 27 shots, finishing with an 85% save percentage. He also finished with four clutch saves in the shootout to help seal the game for the Spartans.
The Vegas Jr. Golden Knights picked up a win today to get their record above .500, moving to 4- 3 with a win over the MN Prospect All-Stars. The All-Stars opened up with an early goal, but the Golden Knights came back with three unanswered goals to win the game. In those three goals, the Golden Knights had each goal scored by a different player. Evan Lackas, Cooper Desrochers, and Zane Wieboldt are the goal scorers. Despite an early lead for the MN Prospect All-Stars, the Golden Knights did not shy away from the opportunity to get a nice win. The Golden Knights improve their record to 4-3.
